All Quiet On the Western Front/World War I
Students are to read the novel All Quiet on the Western
Front. As they read the novel, they will compile comprehensive
notes in the CAST method. The CAST method explores four
main components of the novel: characters, action or plot,
settings, and themes. Students will also compile a timeline
of World War (which is the setting for the novel) identifying
significant events of WWI on one side and important plot
events from the novel on the other. Because the novel
is historical fiction , many events should coincide. Students
need to be sure to include causes of the war in the timeline.
The timeline can be as elaborate as the student wants.
Students should include pictures, images, and writings.
