The Big6™ Writing Process for Grades 3 – 6 

This feature section will help you get organized and complete an assigned written paper or report. Writing can be a lot of fun if you approach it in an organized way. Here you will find links to the writing process and some great tools.

Print Sources

Your animals can be found in the following Dewey decimal call numbers: Reptiles - 597, Birds - 598, Mammals-599. You can go into any school or public library, go to that call number on the shelf and find your animal there.

The following books along with our encyclopedia sets can be used in the library or checked out overnight.

Britannica Online School Edition provides three complete encyclopedias:
     Encyclopedia Britannica for High School and advanced students.
     Britannica Student Encyclopedia for Middle School students and up.
     Britannica Elementary Encyclopedia for Elementary School students and up.
Also search for thousands of video and media clips, full text journals and magazines, reviewed and rated Internet sites and various teacher and learning resources.

 

EBSCO  Middle Search Plus has 188 periodicals indexed and abstracted and 159 periodicals in full text.

 

 

 

EBSCO's Encyclopedia of Animals offers in‑depth information on a variety of topics relating to animals. The database consists of indexing, abstracts, and full text records describing the nature and habitat of familiar animals. Within some of the full text, image links are available for the Windows client. Images are accessed by double‑clicking any image graphic.


Web Sites

Animal Diversity Web The University of Michigan’s Museum of Zoology has thousands of species accounts which may include text, pictures of living animals, photographs and movies of specimens, and/or recordings of sounds.

Enature A resource provided by the National Wildlife Federation

Enchanted Learning (ask Mrs. Swift for user id and password to view the site without ads) Produces children's educational web sites and games which are designed to capture the imagination while maximizing creativity, learning, and enjoyment.

Cite Your Sources

To cite your sources we will be using NoodleBib web-site. You will need all the books and electronic print-outs you used with you to complete this part of your assignment.

  1. In the My Bibliography tab, select your citation type from the drop down menu and click GO.
  2. Follow the on-screen instructions and click next.
  3. Enter the information about your source, click CHECK FOR ERRORS, correct any errors and click GENERATE CITATION.
  4. If you want to view this at a later time write down the source list key #.
  5. Click the I Understand button at the bottom.
  6. You may now repeat steps 1-3 for the remainder of your sources.
  7. When you are ready to print, click on the Options Tab
  8. Click on the Preview Button and File and Print.
