Techniques for Reading Groups

Literature Circles are used when there is not a classroom set of novels. Small groups of students are assigned one title to read. They respond to what they are reading in a journal, and discuss their books daily in their groups. Other activities are required by the teacher for each group. We chose these six titles : Sounder, Bridge to Terabithia, The Watsons Go To Birmingham, Bud, Not Buddy, Nothing But the Truth, and Espanoza Rising.

Dewey Decimals that might be helpful are 028.5 and 011
Subject Headings used are: READING-LITERATURE, CHILDREN'S-LITERATURE, READING, STRATEGIES-LITERARY TEXTS, LITERATURE, GROUP READING-U.S.,LITERATURE-STUDY & TEACHING-U.S., COOPERATIVE LEARNING,CHILDRENBOOKS & READING-U.S., GROUP WORK IN EDUCATION
