Information
The
seventh grade students are going to read a novel, Strassers The Wave,
in
their language arts class. In order to improve their understanding of
the
significance of this novel, as they lack knowledge of Hitlers rise to
power
and the horror of the Holocaust, they will gather reliable
information
about these events.
Students
began reading and taking notes about the conditions in Germany
and
the
subsequent persecution of Jewish citizens throughout Europe
from the
1930s until 1945. They
compared and discussed their findings with study
partners
and classmates. The teachers were available throughout these
discussions
to provide advice and direction as needed. Several short
reflective
writing discussion sessions were completed in the classroom
prior
to reading their novel.
Some
of the Dewey numbers they will consult are 362.87, 364.1, 373.09, 920,
940.53,
and BIO.
Several
of the Subject Headings used are Jewish Holocaust, 1939-1945,
Holocaust,
World War II and Holocaust, Concentration Camps and individual
names.
