*Although novels are not a good place to do research, they can give you a feel for a time,

  place, and/or event.  The Graham Middle School library has more than thirty novels set

  during the Civil War.  These are among the best of them:

*In addition to several excellent reference books which include information about the Civil War,

  the library's collection includes over twenty volumes dealing with the Civil War in general,

  specific battles of the Civil War, and other topics such as generals and weapons. 

  There is even a book of recipes!

 

The Civil War section is the 973.7 section, but there are books relating to the Civil War in other sections as well.  Check the on-line catalog.

If you decide to conduct your own search, use a good search engine such as overture.com, google.com, or vivisimo.com.  Don’t “Ask Jeeves.” And remember that there have been civil wars in places other than the United States so your query should include both "civil war" and "united states" as in "civil war" +"united states" +weapons  or "civil war" +"united states" +politics.
