Information
This
teacher selected science careers as the focus of the research project
for
his students. They were supplied a list of multiple science careers
from
which to select their particular choice. Almost all the students were
working
in groups of three to facilitate locating all the pieces of
required
information needed for their final joint presentation. Each
member
of the group assumed a duty to examine the different resources in
order
to obtain the maximum amount of necessary information. They sought
help
only when they became stymied in locating what they needed.
When
the students arrived in the library to begin the research phase of
this
project I explained the resources available for their use and gave
them
an overview on how to use them. Each group split up responsibilities
and
began gathering information about their career using appropriate
resources.
Whenever they met a blockage they asked for direction from the
teachers.
Some
of the Dewey numbers they will use are 004, 006.6, 331.7, 337.5,
502.3,
599.23, 610.69, 610.73, 621.319, 629.28, 636.08 and 794.8.
Several
of the Subject Headings used are Careers, Vocations, and the
specific
name of a career ie., medicine or engineering.
