Seamus Heaney: A Lifetime in Poetry

April is National Poetry Month. Discover a poet, collect poetry, listen to poems read aloud, read your poems aloud, and share the joy of poetry often throughout the month.

Although the assignments vary, using this pathfinder will provide links to meet each one: biographies of poets, collections of their work, criticism about a poet's work, or audio archives so you can enjoy poetry as it was meant to be heard.

When searching at the library, look for these Dewey numbers in nonfiction or reference: 808--Collections of literary texts from more than two literatures; 809--Poetry--History and critical appraisals of literatures; 811--American poetry; 821--English poetry.

In this study, we are primarily looking at British and American authors and poets. Other regions of the world are certainly included.

Because Nobel Laureate Seamus Heaney visited Ohio Wesleyan University Wednesday, April 21, 2004, students were able to attend an evening poetry reading. Therefore, the English classes studied the life and works of Heaney specifically.
