CONTENT INFORMATION

      Students in the fifth grade are learning about animals and the differences between invertebrates and vertebrates.  Students are encouraged to select an animal they would like to learn more about and to prepare a project about this animal including written research, oral presentation, and another manner of depicting the animal such as poetry, artwork and models. 

     Dewey numbers will include general encyclopedia (031) as well as animal and pet volumes in the 500’s and 600’s.

     Subject headings include animals, animals (habits and behavior), pets, habitats, vertebrates, invertebrates, wildlife, ecology, life science and zoology.

     Describes the unique characteristics and habits of different creatures that are active at night, including wolves, skunks, bats, and other mammals, insects, and amphibians.

     Concise, illustrated encyclopedia which includes about 2,000 kinds of animals.  Included are illustrations, classifications, and basic information as well as whether the animal is extinct, endangered, vulnerable, rare, or not endangered.

                           The Reader’s Digest illustrated book of cats.  Montreal: Reader’s Digest Association.  1992.

                               Presents information about cats including their history, anatomy, breeds, genetics, physiology, buying and caring for cats, exhibiting cats clubs and associations.  Includes illustrations and photographs of many of the topics discussed.
