Project Goals
- To introduce information literacy standards to sophomore level preservice teachers in the Survey of Exceptionalities course.
Activities
- Teacher candidates were required to complete a Self-Monitoring Refection on each of the ten Council of Exceptional Children (CEC) standards
- Candidates researched three valid, reliable resources related to three areas of the CEC standards in which they were weak.
- Required to select one of the areas and produce a full report (including annotated bibliography, oral presentation, structured handout)
- The above information was developed into an Individual Enhancement Plan
Assessment
- Information literacy standards and activities will be added to the Special Education TAG course beginning in Fall 2007.
- Students liked doing a project that directly addressed an individual need.
- The project coordinator from the education faculty increased her understanding of information literacy standards.
- Students’ knowledge level changed as a result of oral presentations made by classmates.
