Project Goals
- To guide teacher trainees enrolled in EDU 3330201 (Integrating Educational Technology into the Curriculum) in how to develop a lesson plan that uses the Ohio Academic Content Standards for Information Literacy prior to the trainee’s student teaching experience.
- To expose teacher trainees to K-12 specific databases.
- To enhance collaboration between the librarian and the education faculty member through assessment of the student’s Web Quest assignment.
- To offer a workshop for education faculty on information literacy.
Activities
- Developed a 50-minute presentation to teacher trainees stressing evaluation of online resources and intellectual property issues.
- Created a Wiki site that included self-paced instruction elements.
- Students completed an assignment requiring them to research a topic, identify two relevant Web sites and evaluating those Web sites.
- Project went through a test run in Fall 2006.
Assessment
- Students responded well to the Wiki technology, but posted information about Web sites not related to information literacy. Wording of the assignment will be adjusted to clarify the purpose of the assignment and the role of the Wiki.
- Pre and post-test assessment was planned for Spring 2007 using the TRAILS assessment tool.
- Workshop was presented to a cross-section of the academic community on January 4, 2007.
